Intelligent lawn mowing in lanes and without having to lay a wire.
With the ArduMower Model 2021, it becomes possible. The choice is yours: classic lawn mowing with a wire in the lawn or wireless mowing via GPS RTK. Accurate to the centimeter with a map via app (video).
With the 2021 version of Ardumower, things get colorful. Thanks to the new aluminum composite material, many color combinations are now available. A nice side effect of the new material: The ArduMower has become a good 2 kg lighter. This reduces energy consumption and makes handling easier. In addition, from this version onwards there is a standard front bumper that reports obstacles via two spring contacts.
About the ArduMower project
One drive of the project is to use technological possibilities, which normal lawn robots from the trade do not (yet) use. With which mower in 2020, for example, could you mow with centimeter precision without needing a perimeter wire? A second important driver is sustainability. Many ArduMower users previously had a "normal" lawn robot until it broke down. The hardship comes with the repair costs. These quickly amount to several 100€. Instead of repairing often new is bought, instead of the exchange of a 3 ct resistor a complete mainboard is exchanged.
It goes also differently. Open circuit diagrams and a large community that helps to find errors quickly and to keep costs low.
Building an artwork from scratch is a very simple task.
Building an ArduMower is challenging. It is important that you read this description completely.
We want satisfied customers who üre properly informed about the scope of work, the status of the project, the advantages and disadvantages, and the safety instructions. If you have any questions about the project, technology or anything else, please use the Forum. Then the questions and answers will be available to everyone.
- There are circumstances with GPS reception that can hinder stable use. If too many trees and houses obscure the sky, experience has shown that reliable deployment is limited. Please inform yourself HERE IN THE FORUM before buying how the chances are. We can not guarantee that it works for your environment.
- Robot lawnmower (regardless of manufacturer) should not be operated without supervision. There is a risk of injury to people (especially small children) and animals. Before working on the robotic lawnmower, the device must be disconnected from the power supply.
- The chassis (hausing) are milled from a composite material (aluminum / plastic). A full deburring would make the chassis significantly expensive,. Therefore, we leave this work to the customer. There is a risk of cutting yourself on it. Please take appropriate care when working and wear suitable protective clothing, such as gloves.
Further below you will find strongly summarized the most important information about the options of this kit.

Which GPS option?
Want to avoid laying a loop wire in the ground and take advantage of the benefits of GPS navigation via GPS RTK (Real Time Kinematics)? The principle of GPS RTK is based on two receiver units. One on the mower (called rover) and a second stationary unit (called base). You need the Rover unit in any case. For the Base unit, you have several options, and in this kit we offer the two most reliable (from our experience).
-
NTRIP (Networked Transport of RTCM via Internet Protocol): here you do not need your own base and use öpublic correction data, e.g. from the satellite positioning service SAPOS. This service requires registration with the provider and is free of charge or subject to a fee in Germany, depending on the federal state. With this solution you need a stable internet connection and a good WLAN coverage in the whole garden area, so that the user can receive the current correction data at any place in the garden. The quality of the correction data depends on many factors, including the weather and the distance of the base Station.
-
Own Base with Long Range Radio System: Here you build your own base station in a location with an unobstructed view of the sky (ideally on the roof of your house). Communication between rover and base takes place over a 868 MHz radio system. WLAN coverage in the garden is not necessary. This solution achieved the highest accuracy at the most of our customers.

Which board to select?
For the central processing unit, you have a choice between the DUE R3 development board and the Adafruit Grand Central M4. Although the M4 is slightly more powerful than the DUE, you will hardly notice this in practice. An important difference is that the M4 has more memory for very large cards and already has a micro SD card reader integrated. The SD card (not included) stores the current memory card and the current memory progress, so that this information is also available after restarting the device. With the DUE, the card reader must be connected manually and is included in the scope of delivery when the DUE is selected.
Only the DUE works with the loop transmitter version.
Brushless motors or not?
The brushless motors are more energy efficient and generally have a longer life than the classic DC motors with carbon brushes. The cost of brushless motors is somewhat higher due to the more complex control system, and the assembly also requires a little more effort.

Scope of supply in complete set
Due to the continuous development of the Ardumower, the scope of delivery of this offer will also be dynamically adjusted. The following listing is valid from 04.07.2021.
You have since the chassis version 2021 very many combination möglichkeiten. The standard lid is 6 mm thick and white; matte with the ArduMower lettering. If you choose another lid color, you will get the 6 mm lid without lettering and an additional lid in 3 mm thickness in your desired color with lettering. We recommend that you glue the two lid halves at the edges (and some points in between) with a 2-component adhesive. We also recommend gluing the reinforcing plates of the drive motors. The wheels are black made of 8 mm thick PE-HD in black.
